I have been known to wait until the last minute to do things, and this Spring/Easter project is no exception. To be honest this project was put together about 3 weeks ago. Things have been a little crazy around here (all good) and I’ll fill you in on the details soon.
I wanted a budget minded project to use with a vignette on my
new “old” buffet table. Picked up a metal pail from the Salvation Army (no Goodwill’s around me) for a $1 and a tulip bunch from Micheals, using my 50% off coupon the tulips were $2.50.
Spray painted the pail yellow, but didn’t look right. I toss around the idea of painting it with chalkboard paint, tried wrapping it with green tissue paper, but neither did the trick. Then I had a mini “light” bulb moment and headed off to my trusty stash of material (Yes – I’m a material girl) and found this gorgeous piece…
The material is really soft and the color was perfect! I cut off a piece and started draping it around the pail and tucked the ends in.
I’ve had this material for years, so no cost. Dropped a piece of Styrofoam inside and jabbed the tulips down in to it.
Crumbled up some of the newspaper “grocery sales” fliers (lighter in weight) and filled around the inside of the pail to just above the lid.
Put some moss on top (from another project)..
Nestled some eggs (project leftovers) in the moss and wrapped the pail with colored raffia (found in a box in the
basement dudgeon). Topped it off with a cute little bird ($2.50) on top.
I love how great the new vignette looks on my buffet………so spring.
There’s a story behind this buffet – that’s another post. I intertwined some of the material and just played with different thrift store finds. From the left – blue vase ($3.00), white lamp ($5.50 – love this lamp), rooster ($3.50) violin (salvaged piece), little bird ($1.00), rooster (stole from garden) and lastly vase ($4.00). Cut down branches from outside and sprayed painted them with yellow and hung some more eggs (dollar tree) from ribbon.
This may surprise you, but I Love, LOve, LOVE color!
