Seriously, we've gonna talk windows here..
WHY?
because our windows are really in BAD shape.
We've talking 90 year old, leaky windows, that have zillions of coats of paint
Well. ..that's not exactly true - MOST have paint - some spots NO paint at all.
How bad can they be you say, really UGH.LY bad...
See what I mean, UGH.LY, HORRENDOUS BAD!
Would you believe we painted them less than 7 years ago?
Replacing them, ain't happening!
BUT...
I just couldn't take how bad they look anymore!
I mean, how MUCH can a person take?
Whenever anyone comes over, the first thing I do is DROP the curtains.
SO...
It's time to Ren.no.vate!
We're doing a test run on one set - Who knows - maybe they're past the point of NO return!
Removed the stops..
Removed the sash cords.
And started sanding, sanding and more sanding!
The top windows are not removable - so we had to strip them in place, inside.
It took FIVE solid days of standing/stripping each window, and there are three sets to one window!
We finally got them to this stage...
The oak grain is really showing through...
Whew, we need a break...
Next Phrase, re-conditioning/staining.

this is such a cool post! i will be back for part two! hope you enjoyed a nice break -- you guys deserved it! : ) hugs...
Oh, Cathy I feel your pain! We have a sleeping porch upstairs that is all windows. Old windows. They are in bad shape and I am dreading the day that I tackle them! Yours look great so far...can't wait to see the end result! Enjoy this pretty weather!
Susan, we are in pain, this is tedious, messy and time consuming project. BUT, they will be so worth it. I'll be able to keep my curtain open, what more could a girl want!
Hi! I just gave you Versatile Blogger award over at Little House of Projects. Please stop by and see who else got the award and maybe become my newest follower! Thanks!

Wow! What a difference. They sure look beautiful Hope this great weather holds out for you!
Wow! You've done an amazing job! I bet you are so sick of sanding, but what an outcome! They look beautiful and will certainly not need the curtains closed on them after this. Great job!
