Hello Charming friends! The re-staining of the house as been a long, hard, and body draining project! The good news, we are 99.5% done! Gosh, it will be such a relief to finally start enjoying summer! Last Thursday it rained all day and provided me the break for some play time! Play time is cooking, sewing, gardening and decorating, and creating a summer mantel.
Whenever creating a vignette it always starts with my inspiration piece…
The summer oil painting was a find for $10. Loved the colors…and the yellow house reminded me of the Charmer. Our pond isn’t anywhere near as large as this one which is OK adding more charm to the photo.
The Spring bird mantel was tucked away for another year, and a few of my lovely thrifting treasures added.
With the time crunch we’ve been in there wasn’t a lot of time to play, and I wanted a simple look to the mantel. Vintage books were added and a recent vintage Hull vase helped bring out the yellow in the house.
Typically I don’t like to decorate symmetrically, but, due to time constraints this time I did. For me, symmetrical decorating lends a sense of “stress” to me. Maybe it’s because I lean to more of a casual and cozy feel which doesn’t lend itself to a matchy-matchy look!
On each side a vintage milk glass lamp was place on top of a soup tureen with the lid flipped over providing a base. Doing this provided the height needed on both ends. Some greenery, the ferns, added a bit of nature. Candlesticks were added…
and topped with a vintage tea cup turned over with a fabric ball added on top for color.
The oil painting pulls me in whenever I look at it…and has such a calming effect.
Can’t you just imagine yourself inside the cute cottage, looking out at the pond, sipping a cup of tea? I can!
Have you created any summer vignettes?
