My Valentine’s Day theme is all about the heart. Keeping this in mind I wanted to create a heart shaped dessert. Since I don’t really enjoy baking (all about savory) my recipe needed to be easy, yet, an elegant dessert. Valentine Strawberry Pastry Dessert is a perfect recipe for Valentine’s Day.
The recipe is very easy, quick and delicious. It’s also very elegant dessert with minimal effort and a very light dessert. Since I like lighter desserts after a dinner meal it works perfectly. If you buy pre-made pastry it’s takes less than a half hour to make.
Since I don’t like going out for Valentine’s Day, and no one cooks as good as me :-}, I’d rather stay home and create a special dinner for the two of us.
After Valentine’s Day last year I found a set of heart shaped cookie cutters thrifting that worked perfectly for the dessert. They can be any size or shape.
Its a quick bake since it only takes 8 minutes.
Placed one baked heart on a plate, added a good dollop of homemade whipped creme (please don’t buy chemical laden cool whip or canned) it takes less than 10 minutes to whip your own.
Top the whip cream with sliced strawberries. Add another layer of heart, whip cream and strawberries. Top with the third heart sprinkling powdered sugar over the top. You can top with a mint sprig or I just used the greens from the strawberries.
To create the strawberry fan thinly slice the strawberry, but not all the way through. Then I melted a few chocolate chips with a little butter for a chocolate spread.
I know you will enjoy the strawberry pastry dessert. You guest will be impressed and you’ll both feel special.
I didn’t plan it but my chocolate spread came out looking like a smile!
Strawberry Pastry Dessert
serves 2 to 4
1 pie pastry should serve 4) I didn’t use all of mine and froze the remaining dough
(I’m sure you already have your favorite pie crust) or pre-made (TJ’s has a good one)
cut pastry in to hearts, you’ll need 3 hearts for each dessert
1 cup heavy/whipped cream
1 tsp. sugar
chocolate chips and butter or your favorite chocolate syrup (buy a good one)
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Roll your pie crust to 1/16-inch thick, if pre-purchased skip this part. Use a cookie cutter cut 3 hearts for each person. Place on a parchment lined sheet pan and bake 4 to 8 minutes or until lightly brown.
Then whip heavy cream with granulated sugar until soft peaks form.
Arrange one baked Valentine heart on each plate, add a small amount of whipped cream and sliced strawberries. Continue building until each plate has 3 pastry hearts with whipped cream and strawberries between. Dust tops with powdered sugar.
You can garnish plates with chocolate syrup, strawberry fans, mint sprigs.
