Smiles peeps!
Today I am going to show you how to make a Shabby Cottage Flower!

The fabrics you'll use will obviously affect the look of your flower.
Let's get started..
1) Freehand 4 different flower shapes on paper (don't worry, perfect is not a good thing)!

The flowers....
The largest flower has 4 pedals, measuring 4" across (top right), cut two out
2 flowers have 7 smaller pedals each , 1 - 3 3/4" across (bottom right), and 1 - 3 1/4" across (top left)
1 flower has 5 pedals, 2 3/4" across (bottom left)

I used a heavier weight cotton, but not as heavy as twill! You want your fabric to have body!

2) Next start cutting strips of complimentary fabric in varying lengths. Also use laces and fibers (yarns).

2) Start stacking the cut flowers (largest to smallest) on top of each other.
3) Then place the scrap strips on top of the flower petals, hand tacking down (thread or hot glue).
4) On top of the fabric add some fiber, I used some burlap threads and tacked down (thread or glue).
5) Next I made a rolled fabric flower on top of the layers, tacking down (thread or glue).

After the rolled flower is secured, you can tuck in more lace and fiber around the rolled flower. Both of these help to add dept and character to the flower.
I also place a fabric "charger" behind the main flower. I cut a circle about 1 1/2" larger than finished flower and attached (thread or glue),
Just play with it until it looks the way you want!

The shabby cottage flower helped unite all my pillow fabrics together!
Share with me if you make one.

Very pretty, Cathy, and I love it on your pillow!
I was just trying to make a shabby fabric flower the other day and I would have loved to have had your tutorial. So adorable. I just wung it (wung?)
and it worked but I could have used the cute ideas you added that I didn't. Next time!

This is so cute. I love it on the pillow. Thanks so much for all the sweet notes you've been leaving me over at Posed Perfection. Hope you have a great week!
Blessings, Nici
YAY ty so much for sharing this Cathy YAY!!
What a charming flower project--I love the way it looks on the pillow it adorns. Thank you so much for stopping by my blog for a visit today, Cathy--it was nice to hear from you!
So cute!!
Love the flower! Thanks for the tutorial! Pinning.
Cute Cathy!
It looks really cute on the pillow... I could even see it on a jacket! Thank you for hosting, I'm all linked up with my Sunday Best for the week. I'm so behind with my emails lately...school started for me last week and I was overcome with DREAD (I always get really bad anxiety the two weeks prior to school starting). Now tomorrow, my children start. The oldest is overcome with DREAD, just like me. We need at least another week to get over being overwhelmed!
Came over from your Party! I am pinning this! Like the commenter above, I have been looking for the right fabric flower for me. Maybe it was the vintage-looking fabric you used or the way you added pieces of other fibers, but I love this one. It is perfect for your pillows!
Love the flower, pinning it for sure.
I LOVE the flower!!! I have a girlfriend that will love this. Also glad to see you spent the weekend outside! It was a lovely weekend to be outside!! I spent most of in the kitchen canning, but man will it taste good in the middle of winter!!!
"LOVE IT and thank you so much for showing us your magic"! This would be an extra special project to do with the kiddies. What a FUN FUN idea and collecting the materials MAYBE from flea market finds. "LOVE IT"!
Have a wonderful week,
Hugs,
Donna

I love them and they are the perfect touch to your pillows.
Nice tutorial and the flower is lovely. It does indeed tie all the pillows together and I like the addition of the fibers for more texture! Thanks for sharing on Busy Monday!
