Late last night our beloved “Laid Back Bo” became very sick.
Walking became difficult and he was disoriented. In the early morning he no longer was able to stand on his own, or with help, had no strength and was unresponsive. As we carried Bo to our SUV I couldn’t help but worry if this might be Bo’s last day with us.
After the examination and laboratory results the two main concerns were 1) constricted or flipped spleen and/or 2) cancer (pushing his organs out). We wanted to take Bo to the University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital (incredible place) in Urbana, IL, but it was clear Bo might not make the 2 hours drive downstate. Bo was in bad shape!
Exploratory surgery was the next step and he was in surgery within 2 hours. About 30 minutes later we found out that Bo had a “constricted” spleen, the constriction was so bad that his spleen was 3 times the normal size which was causing the extension in his stomach. They removed Bo’s spleen and he is now in ICU (intensive care unit).
We’ve made it through surgery but the next 24 hours are critical and the most dangerous of his recovery because of his age (10-12 years).
So please say a prayer for our beloved companion and family member!
Prayer for Laid Back Bo
Please help us in our time of need,
You have made us stewards of Bo.
If it is in your will, please restore him
to health and strength.
I pray too for other animals in need.
May they be treated with the care and respect
deserving of all Your creations.
Blessed are You Lord God,
and holy is Your name for ever and ever.
