Our Cottage Mantel – don’t call me slow!

Smiles my friends,

I finally got around to decorating our mantel in  our new cottage style!

I've been movin slower than a turtle, and the hot weather isn't helping!

All dolled up, and looking pretty,

I might of gone crazy with PicMonkey "sharpness" feature?

Oh, remember to always "save" a copy of your original, so when you do go crazy you'll have a backup!

I noticed my mantel wasn't looking too good, kind of looking old.

I decided to use clear Restor-A-Finish on it.  Use it on a lot of the pieces that go to my booth. Love it.

She's looking about as good as a piece of ruff cut pine can, looking a lot richer don't  ya think?

Found this old chippy piece of fence at the antiques mall my booths are at,

Sitting on the fence with the sheet music above the fireplace added last  Christmas.

All the treasures I used on the vignette were garage/thrift store finds.  Found the violin over a year ago and could never find the right spot for it.  Then it hit me to add it to the middle of the wreath.

Most of the fun in decorating is adding the finishing touches, like vignettes, using all the treasures you've found.

I fell in love with the English Staffordshire plate, I've been going crazy over blue plates lately.  Forgotten how much I love Blue!

The little bird dish underneath the shelve was a GW 99¢ find and the candle stick too, glass blue candle garage sale. Tucked a Pansy picture behind, another garage sale score. I really love all the colors.

On the other side my vase was filled with some pretties from my garden, another blue dish, and the cloche filled with bone china tea cups.

a closeup of the tea cups under cloche, aren't they just so pretty!

yellow Helianthus, Dianthus, Queen Anne's Lace, Coneflower, Liatris, Filipendula seed heads

loving all the colors, I am such a color lover!

Next week finishing up the vignette to the right of the mantel.

Have you been working on any vignettes lately?

  1. I love it! It's perfect!

  2. That looks so pretty, Cathy! Love the teacups under the cloche. I love your fireplace, too. That arch is different and really adds some interest.

    • I just found those teacups, and knew they were meant to rest under the tall cloche. The arch of the fireplace is original to the house, it adds a lot of character to the room. Thanks for stopping by!

  3. That mantel is absolutely beautiful! I love how you incorporated the violin and sheet music.

    • I'm so glad you like it, I found the violin over a year ago and never found a home for it until I place it inside the wreath. Love it there!

  4. Beautiful job...I love your weathered fence. GORGEOUS!!!

    • Thanks, found the weather fence at the antiques mall where my booth is at. It was only $10 bucks so I snatched it up, knew I would use it somewhere!

  5. Cathy, your mantel is absolutely beautiful! Love your blue plates, flowers...your wreath...favorite is the weathered fence!

    • So glad you like the mantel, I have fallen in love all over again with blue plates, can't see to get enough.

  6. Cathy, the mantle looks wonderful! All of those pretty things are so artfully put together. It is a beautiful site!

    • That's so much, I really enjoyed decorating the mantel, I don't consider this my strong suit though, so if you like it I did a good job!

  7. Beautiful mantle! I love the book page wall treatment and the little chippy fence piece! Cute!

    • So glad you like the page wall treatment, I got positive feedback on it, but you know how you just don't know? I think I would of like it better is the pages were smaller. But so glad you like.

  8. Cathy, the mantel looks wonderful now, it is a great change for good. Your living room is very nice.

  9. Cathy, the sheet music is a really neat idea! I used some in an isolated part of my ceiling and I love it, too!

    • I like the sheet music too, but if I had to do all over again I would use smaller pages, with an old house the walls are anything but level. I think the smaller pages would hide it more.

  10. Adorable!

  11. I love the teacups under the cloche! So clever!! Saw you at Nifty Thrifty Tuesday :-) Stop by for a visit!

    • It was a light bulb moment when I thought to put the teacups under the cloche. I love them there, also feel they are "protected" under the cloche too!

  12. You mantel looks so pretty I like the chippy fence and the teacups in the cloche.

    • So glad you like the chippy fence, I was a little worried it was a little too "casual" but the feedback has been great on it, so I'm happy!

  13. The way you have put those teacups under the glass dome is a brilliant idea, might just have to pinch it!

    • Thanks, teacups were just meant to fit under there. I've tried so many different items and never like them, but once the teacups went under I was happy!

  14. Love the fence piece above your mantel. It provides a great focal point!

  15. I love your use of color and height! Your mantel is just perfect! I love it. Thanks so much for sharing at the party this week :-)

    • I was lucky to find the little bench in the right color, so I used it to give varying heights. Now I need to find another one for the other side!
