Good morning friends! You might not remember our precious dog, Bo.
He was the most gentle, loving and caring dog we ever had the pleasure of having in our lives. In January he passed 3 years ago. We missed him every single day! We called him Laid Back Bo because nothing ever bothered him and his kindred spirit nature. We loved him so much it has been hard for us to open our hearts to another pet child.
Even though I’ve brought up the subject with Mr. C over the last year he just didn’t seem ready….then last week I was on Facebook and spotted a post about a rescue dog needing a new home. So I put out a few questions and found she was a Sable Cocker Spaniel, a female, that had been a VA rescue. She was being housed at Furrever Friends Animal Rescue in IL.
Ok, seriously how could one refuse this face! So I called, just to get some information. They guessed her age to be between 3 and 4, very loving and loves to be petted and wants to be a lap dog!
I’ve had two Cocker Spaniels before and really like the breed. Smaller, but not too small, great energy and usually very loving. But both of my Cockers ended up having cancer, one at 3 years old with throat cancer and my last one, Chuppie, also died from systemic cancer. Both dogs were from the same breeder.
A Cocker can also have a tendency to aggression, and both mine were. So when we looked for another dog, and found Bo in the shelter, we picked Bo because of his gentle nature.
Well one phone call lead to another and ended up Ginger came to our home Saturday evening. We have decided to foster her for a while to find out if we are a good good for her, and she is a good fit for us.
The first two nights were anything but fun, she obviously was very afraid, but was showing aggression, bitting me and Mr. C. She was extremely aggressive toward Mr. C and bit him several times. He was not a happy camper with her!
She would not give us eye contact, or made it easy to put a lease on her. I don’t think I ever heard a dog howl all night long as she did the first night. Since the one thing we wanted to avoid is having another cocker that is aggressive we were concerned.
But, yesterday she did a complete turnaround! We went through the whole day without any aggression, no biting and now seems to have taken on a real liking of Mr. C. We went for several walks yesterday and she loves to play ball. She is giving us eye contact, her appetite is healthy and loves to love.
I’m thinking of naming her Shadow, because she follow me everywhere! Hopefully things will continue this way and we’ll be able to lovingly give her her Furrever home!
