Last Sunday I shared our master bedroom’s inspiration photo and the demolition phase, if you haven’t seen it click here. It took three years to complete our bedroom remodel and a whole lot of hard work. This morning I’m sharing the Construction Phase.
Warning, photos are bad…high end photography was not important for us during this time. If it’s too bad, just look away!
We left off the demolition framing out a wall for a for a built in cabinet.
and both bookcases were dry walled, patched and primed.
Before we trimmed out the ceiling, we painted the wall with a blue/grey and old white on the top ceiling part.
We measured out where the bottom trim would be and marked it on the ceiling (inspiration photo below), using the markings we painted the “wall” blue/grey and ceiling old white. I knew as soon as Mr. C was painting it, it was not the right color….too much blue.
But I was ready to get this room done, and repainting could be done later.
A lot of time was spent figuring out where the ceiling bottom trim would fall on the wall, below the window top.
We didn’t realize that our window sits lower than in the inspiration picture. The lower trim above sits “below” the window and that line was used to end the drapery there. The window is also narrower and taller than ours.
I told Mr. C to “forget” the original markings and to place the bottom trim just below the top of the window. I guess he didn’t hear me?
After much begging, and no response from Mr. C (ugh), it was left for awhile, and the rooms trim work was finished.
This is where the project sat for over a year! 2013 turned out to be a difficult year for me health wise. I have never really gone in to detail about it, I’m funny that way. It was such a raw and traumatic experience that it is too difficult to share.
We did move in the bedroom and just set up the essentials until I was feeling better…
The ceiling architectural woodwork was moved down, and room repainted.
The master bedroom Reveal will be shared next!
Have you ever started a project that took over 3 years?
