It’s Finally Gone!

Smiles peeps,

It's finally gone - the last of the old Merlot color walls!

All the walls in our living area have been painted but one,

You can see the last bit of wall that hasn't been painted,
see all the paint samples on the wall?
I just couldn't make up my mind - I wanted a neutral color since it heads upstairs to the master bedroom.

This wall has looked like this for months...
I've been feeling pressure  "why" can't I pick a color?

I was sitting in my favorite spot the other night, and it dawned on me!
the foyer area rug looks great with the yellow and green.

No one can say I can't make a decision - it just takes a  long time!

Hubs took the rug to Loews and had the color matched, and started painting.

I'm feeling a little feisty, do you see what I see? Hubs would kill me if he saw this!

It definitely looks cleaner and brighter than before!

But gosh, there's no color. Did you notice there's no color?

Now you know I'm a color and pattern girl, so I'm just gonna have to do something,

Do you have any ideas?

  1. how about something bright in picture form or doing a collage of picture with colors frames

  2. Wow, it looks so different with that colour gone! Much lighter and more spacious!
I'm curious to see what you decide to do with that wall now! I think I'd make a gallery wall feature, using brightly coloured frames!

  3. Cathy, you are so funny! (showing your hubby like that! :) I LOVE the new wall color!! I think it really brightens the space and shows off your furnishings much more. It would be fun to add color with a cool old sign(s), maybe, to the wall going up the stairs...?

  4. I would add some height to the corner cabinet...something on top of it to elevate its stature, like a bird cage or a wreath on a stand. Don't worry about getting feisty; I've shoved things down MY hubs butt crack when it's hanging out! Happy Sunday, the weather finally broke!

  5. I will have to admit (besides that pic of your husband) that no-color color you chose threw me for a loop! I have no suggestions except praise for giving yourself a totally blank canvas to work your magic. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

  6. It's pretty, but I'm a color girl too and I feel your pain. First you need something tall on top of that chest in the corner - a colorful lamp might be good. A couple of suggestions that might fill your color void: A large full length mirror in the space at the bottom of the stairs. That would reflect the color in the room and be a kind of "living art": you could do thin vertical stripes about every 4 inches up the stair wall (in the green of the room); you could do a tone on tone stencil on that wall; or you could do a stencil with a glossy water based polyurethane. The reason that this looks funny to you is because you have the stronger color in front of the weaker color - think of clothing, you DON'T wear a bright red tee shirt under a beige sweater - you DO wear a beige blouse under a bright red sweater , make sense?

  7. Cathy, I've written this comment twice and it isn't showing up, so I'm trying again - forgive me if you get it twice! I feel your pain about the color thing. I have several suggestions. First, put something tall on top of that chest. Second I would put a large full length mirror on the wall at the bottom of the stairs. This would reflect light as well as the colors in the room - creating something like living art. Then you have some options for the wall going up the stairs. You could try a thin green stripe about every 4 inches, a tone on tone stencil, or a high gloss water based poly stencil or wide strip. I think the reason you are uncomfortable with the color is because you have the stronger color in the front of the weaker color. Generally we are most comfortable with the reverse arrangement, so the whole thing feels a little out of balance - by all appearances from the parts of your home that I have seen you have a great eye for balance - so trust your gut on this.
