I’ve never considered myself a lucky person! I’ve accepted that fact over the years and try and just go with it. It seems to me that if something is not going to go right, it will happen to me -;
Now I rarely do posts that are what I consider to be “whining”. We all have things in our life that doesn’t go well, but, I try not to share these experiences with the Charmer’s friends. My blog’s motto is “cozy cottage living and gardening on a thrift store budget” not “let me dump on you my cottage style problems”.
We all have difficulties, trauma, loss and sadness in our life…
So let me warm you if you don’t want to waste your time reading a post from a completely irritated woman that leave now!
All I’ve ever hear about Apple is how great the products are, especially Mac Computers. Well, that has not been the case for me!
On April 10th I purchased a brand new MacBook Pro for $2,000, one of the newest models.
Never did I thought I’d be spending this much money on a laptop….but to be honest I was worn out with Microsoft Windows and all its issues. I lived through the hell of Window Vista for two years and I was not about to go through the nightmares I’ve heard about of Windows 8.
So the timing was right to take the plunge and switch to Apple Mac. So out the door I headed feeling like what the he.l did I just do?
The first few days were overwhelming…Mac operating system is a world away from Windows. I didn’t know how to upload a photo, how to export, how to find my files, where was the Internet and so on.
Within a few days I noticed my MacBook Pro would have “freezing” moments of 8 to 20 seconds where the screen would not let me do anything? I couldn’t click, open, write or close the computer. I thought it was me and that I didn’t know how to use a Mac?
Then MacBook Pro would start completely freezing, even after 20 seconds, minutes, hours, it would not let me do anything. Even using the”shutdown” keys it would not respond by closing, it just sat that frozen!
To help keep this shorter than a mile long post (with no photos) I’ve spent over 16 hours waiting for someone at Apple Care to actually get on the line with me, talk to me, and do numerous things to the computer, including reloading all software, with promises that this would be the thing that would work….it didn’t.
The last call to an AppleCare tech, to me, was insulting. The tech did two did little twerks, and said that should do it! I asked what did he do that would cause my computer to not freeze again ? He said oh I bah bah bah!
Oh, I almost forgot in between these 16 hours of tech support they had me drive over 22 miles to an Apple Store who did absolutely nothing. Geez, Apple must think I really have nothing to do with my l life besides beside being monopolized by them.
Here’s how I feel, I spent $2,000 on a brand new computer that should work from the get go. I should not have to “waste” my time and stress trying to get something to work that should be working!
As you can tell I am completely teed off!
The last few times I’ve asked for a new computer, and their reactions “oh that won’t happen till a long way down the line”. How demanding am I that I was so naive to think that when I paid $2,00o that I would actually receive a MacBook Pro that actually work.
Yesterday’s session with Apple Care said the next step is to do a complete “removal” of all software and then “reload” the software. This would mean every file, photo and document I have would be erased. Oh gosh sure, that sounds like a good plan.
Taking a step back, I had recently bought a new Seagate Backup external hard drive, and what I though was lucky for me, I had done a complete backup of my old computer the day before I drowned it with 32 ounces of ice tea.
But Apple cannot upload “windows”files to an Apple. So I hired a computer tech at a cost of $100 to take my backup files and “convert” them to Apple coding. In the process of doing this he “destroyed” my Seagate external hard drive. Well, another $130 out the door.
Getting back to the AppleCare tech, he says, don’t you have an external backup drive. I explained what happened and said I would have to go purchase another. He said, would you mind if I put you on hold? No, of course not, I’m used to being on hold, minimum of 40 minutes waiting for AppleCare that the recording says will be less than a 5 minute wait time.
So he comes back on the line and says, you can take you computer to an Apple store and drop it off for 3-4 days for them to do diagnostic test. My comment, what was I suppose to use for a computer in those 3-4 days?
Mr. tech says, well…..I said NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!. Then he said I could “mail” my computer into Apple and that for the diagnostic test and that would take 1 to 2 weeks. I asked what was I suppose to use for a computer during this time. Mr. tech says, well….
We could send you a computer to use and then we can work on it. I said why not give me a new computer, you take this one back and FIX IT! Then sell it to some other Apple lover.
Where we are at right now is Mr. Tech will call me back on Sunday, at 3 PM. During this time they will partition my hard drive where they can “store” all my files while they unload and reload the software, which will take approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Sure, my time is your time.
Then I asked what if this doesn’t correct the problem. Mr. Tech responds, then it is a “HARDWARE” problem and I’ll have to drop off my computer to an Apple store to have diagnostic work done and new parts added which can takes several days!
Question, when I bought this new Apple MacBook Pro for $2,000 weren’t the parts supposed to be new and working?
My comment to Mr. Tech: THAT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!!!!!
So can someone tell me what is so great about Apple?
