I just HEART climbing roses. I also HEART how they bring “dept & height” (Verticality) to my smaller garden. My rose family includes John Cabot, Don Juan and Climbing Pinata (don’t those names sound so romantic!). All climbing roses.
John Cabot has really done very well in my garden, so well that his vines have
kind of definitely taken over my trellis. Since I haven’t pruned my roses before (should have researched first), I headed out with a hacksaw pruner and went nuts!
It’s been about a month since pruning and he’s looking good with many new buds ready to pop.
If only I had received today’s Fine Gardening newsletter last month. Why you ask? Cause it’s got a video – can you guess what it’s about – Yep – Pruning and Controlling Roses….
This is a great video, and I now know I pruned my rose
right so wrong!!!! If you have any climbing roses in your garden this is a great resource to use. I also highly recommend subscribing to their newsletter. I’ve been a subscriber for about 4 years and look forward to reading all the great information it contains (also a very respected magazine).
Enjoy, see you all later, heading out to my garden!
