The week before last I was typing away on my computer when I knocked over a full 32oz glass of ice tea on my laptop keyboard. This event is when my computer saga began…I think this might explain how I felt…
Immediately I flipped my laptop over, ran for a towel, and started drying everything off! Melanie, a sweet blogging friend sent me an article on how to “dry it out”, but unfortunately it didn’t work.
I was lucky because the day before I did a complete backup to an external hard drive. This was a big relief to me, all my document/photos/blog stuff was safe, or so I thought. It was time to head out for a new computer….heading to the store, there was no doubt I’d buy another Windows application computer.
But then I started to think about the fact how that this would be the third laptop in 4 years! Windows laptops life span is 2-3 at best. My first laptop, a HP lasted just over year, a default with the power source melting out the motherboard? Just after it’s year warranty! Second was a Toshiba, and crashed within 3 weeks of buying it.
I guess I don’t have much luck with laptops, and it I use it as my main computer. If you blog you know how many hours you spend on it a day.
About an hour later I was walking out the store with a MacBook Pro computer for $2,000. Whoa, what the heck did I just do? I’ve never heard anything bad about Macs… reliable, life span of over 8 years, great customer support, and completely different from a Windows environment.
Completely different just doesn’t describe it! I am completely lost, like this and so frustrated I wanted to…
Not a clue to what I was doing….then it started freezing on me, at first a few seconds, then it wouldn’t let me do anything, I used the commands to “shut it down” but nada nothing. I’ve had 4 phone calls with Apple about it, I have to say they have the BEST customer service I have ever experienced!
They completing “reloaded” my computer, the tech explained it like this…a mac is like a library, all full of books, and sometimes a book gets misplaced, and it has to be put back in place. I liked that. The fourth “fix” on my laptop seems to have worked, keep you fingers crossed.
My next concern is that we can’t figure out how to upload my backup files from a Windows environment to a Mac. Mac sees it as a foreign body, no complendo! Also having bought my Apple at Best Buy, for whatever reason does not offer “Apple Care” program or the 1 on 1 classes for $99. This is something I definitely want, for $99 you get a whole year of scheduled 1 hour classes with an Apple tech, in person at the store,
After much ado, Apple customer support team scheduled me an appointment, at an Apple store near me, to be apple to buy the 1 on 1 classes and I have my first class today at 10:30. The tech support I spoke with, scheduled the class, outlined everything they needed to help me with, plus upload my backup to my laptop.
Wow, that’s pretty impressive.
I have to admit, I don’t k now very much right now, but I am able to upload my photos, transfer to my desktop then upload them to my blog posts. So I am “surviving” at the moment, but so much more before I could consider myself at a first grade class level? So it’s feel like I’m going….
Right now my biggest concern is getting my backup files/photos to the Mac, once this is done I’ll feel a lot better. Its scary not having any access to my blog logos, pictures, and so much more.
Keep your fingers crossed for me…..
