It’s been so hectic, and need a break, and ended up taking a fall hike with Mr. C!
At the Palos Forest Preserve – Tomahawk Slough—one of the loveliest little lakes in the entire region—feels far away from the bustle of our Midwestern megalopolis.
We started heading West on the Yellow Trail…and we were getting close to Tomahawk Sough. It’s was so name – because from an aerial view it’s shaped like a Tomahawk!
There he is, see him? Mr. Heron! I can’t remember ever hiking here and not seeing him. I’m always happy when I see him once again, knowing that he is OK. He is always alone. Standing, watching patiently. He brings me comfort.
Oops, he spotted us, and quickly takes off. He doesn’t like company, he likes to be alone.
So we head back, I felt comfort in knowing he was still there.
It was a good day, taking a Fall hike and seeing and old friend.
There is nothing like the soothing effect that nature brings.
